Mechanical sizings

Our means of mechanical simulations allow us to carry out linear static sizings, in isothermal environment or under thermal solicitation. The thermomechanics example below is a validation of a fast rotating workpiece’s shrink fit assembly

Simulation of a shrink fit assembly

Problems encountered :
An equipment of analysis uses a disk in very fast rotation and illuminated by a laser. The disk is mounted on its axis by heat shrinking. The laser thermal solicitation must not overheat the axis and the motor, nor questions the shrink fit. Therefore, the set is validated by thermo mechanical simulation

Objective

Validate the shrink fit’s design in term of heat insulation and mechanical strength

Solutions

  • Thermal simulation with the laser’s illumination averaged by the rotation.
  • Mechanical simulation considering the preload due to the shrink fitting, and the dilation due to the heating during the laser’s illumination.
  • Sensitivity analysis to mounting components sizings.
